Sylvia M. Ampuero

Sylvia Morales Ampuero, 78, passed away into the arms of Our Lord on June 21, 2022 at home in Chicago, Illinois. She was born in Oruro, Bolivia in 1944 to Maria and Jacinto Morales.

Sylvia was a dedicated wife and mother as well as a physician. She graduated from medical school at age 24 and worked as a physician for 54 years alongside her husband, also a physician, Fernando A. Ampuero. For many years, she worked at Norwegian American Hospital and later she established a private medical practice with her husband serving her beloved community the Little Village in Chicago, Illinois.

She was a benevolent and gracious person whose passions included loving God above all else, working alongside her husband and colleague at their private medical practice, being a mother to her three daughters, enjoying her grandchildren, and swimming.

She had a joyful and youthful spirit with a great sense of humor and always was giving of herself and her time to her patients and family. Being a very spiritual person who loved prayer and going to mass, she assisted the Church in whatever way she could like reading at mass, giving communion to the sick, and donating food to the Discalced Carmelites of Des Plaines.

Sylvia is survived and lovingly remembered by her husband of 53 years Fernando A. Ampuero and her daughters Elisa (Fritz) Grove, Marie (Steven) Keilman, and Sandra (Vincent) Witt. She will be deeply missed by her grandchildren Robert Grove; Ava, Elsa, and Jacob Keilman; and Sean and granddaughter Witt.
